Well at least in Washington State they are.

This is just about the most insane thing I have heard in a while but the WEA ( Washington Education Association) decided to squash a grant being offered by the Bill and Malinda Gates foundation because it required merit pay for good teachers.
Now I am not a big Union supporter but this is a perfect example of why unions are dangerous in the first place. Especially the teachers unions, they do not care about the children or their education. To turn this down strictly because of merit pay is just more proof for me that unions are nothing but communistic organizations and want to keep children dumb so they grow up and don't question their tactics.
The teachers unions in this country are destroying our kid education. Locally they are against private education or any education where a teacher doesn't belong to a union. They continuously fight against vouchers while the supreme court has ruled them constitutional. In California they have succeeded in pretty much outlawing homeschooling.
Until be stop these NEA unions from destroying our kids we will continue to drop in education around the world.
